Lord of the Rings: Gollum Video Game Looks Like a Cartoony Version of Peter Jackson's Movies

After waiting, we finally have our first screenshots of Lord of the Rings: Gollum, a video game that nobody asked for but are kind of interested in. The first next-gen Lord of the Rings game coming to PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC sometime next year looks interesting, especially since the developers claimed that it wouldn't be based on the Peter Jackson films. While we aren't sure about the continuity, the game is clearly influenced by the movies, albeit with a cartoony flair.

Revealed by GameStar, the screenshots of the game look decent enough, though not a huge departure from what can be seen from PS4 and Xbox One games. To be fair, this looks to be an early game for next-gen and we probably won't see any revolutionary looking titles until further down the console's lifespan. Still, we aren't against a more animated take on the source material and this game looks solid.

While a stealth/adventure game isn't exactly what Lord of the Rings fans have in mind when they think of a video game based on the franchise, this could be something different than a lot of fans could appreciate. There is a popular phrase about fans not knowing what they want until they try it for themselves and Lord of the Rings: Gollum could be one of those things that they want.

No official release date for Lord of the Rings: Gollum has been announced, though it is expected to come out sometime in 2021 for next-gen consoles.
