Loki Director Promises Bright Future for MCU's Kang The Conqueror

Disney+'s Loki serves as a brief understanding of how the MCU's Multiverse concept will be the next saga of the franchise. Episode 6 of Loki introduced Jonathan Majors as He Who Remains, in which he teases that more dangerous variants of him are coming in the future. Given that, it's a subtle hint that Kang The Conqueror will be the next Thanos-like event of the MCU.

While fans instantly grasped that the Majors' Kang is the next big bad for the mega-franchise, Loki director also anticipates a bright future for the new villain.

In an interview with The Playlist, Loki Season 1 director Kate Herron opens up about working with Jonathan Majors.

"So it was amazing working with him," Herron said. "He is a fantastic actor and it honestly felt a little bit like filming a play. Which was really fun. That was the thing. It was such a privilege seeing an incredible actor find this character because it is going to go on to be an amazing character."

The director went on to discuss Kang The Conqueror's significance in the MCU, which is something that Majors is fully aware of.

"And when I looked at the significance of Kang in the MCU, I agreed to the role the same way I agreed to any other film that I do. 'Can the world move forward without them? Can the scene move forward without them?...' If it can then I’m okay, and if it can’t then it’s something I want to take on," the director added.

In Marvel Comics, Kang is a 31st Century scientist who travels back in time numerous times to accomplish his evil plans. He brings the advantage of 31st-century technology and uses it against the other Marvel superheroes and mainly to the Avengers. He has an army of robots and nifty advanced weaponry from the 31st century that overpowers anyone who stands in his way.

With the Multiverse storyline going on, which centers on parallel universes and character variants, it would make sense for a higly-intelligent time traveler like Kang to be the next big threat for the Avengers. If ever theories about the villain are accurate, Kang The Conqueror might serve as the main villain for Avengers 5.

Loki is available to stream on Disney+ while Jonathan Majors' next outing as Kang The Conqueror in Ant-Man the Wasp Quantumania is set to premiere on February 17, 2023.
