A few weeks removed from Loki's epic Season 1 finale and fans are still buzzing about the Tom Hiddleston series mainly due to the fact that it left so many unanswered questions regarding the sacred timeline, the Time Variance Authority, and so much more that ended up leaving fans in a state of bewilderment.

The show made it clear from the get-go through Judge Renslayer that all the crazy things that transpired in Avengers: Endgame were supposed to take place, except for 2012 Loki being able to get his hands on the Tesseract. This is why despite the fact that Steve Rogers went back in time to continue his romance with Peggy Carter, the TVA never went after him.

Still, despite the explanation, a lot of fans are still convinced that Captain America committed an offense against the sacred timeline. Now, director Kate Herron is sound off amidst the heated debate but instead of giving a definitive answer,

In a recent conversation with The Direct, Herron said that it depends on how the viewer perceives it. She explains: "So! I've been thinking about this (laughs). I'm just like [so excited]... People are going to be annoyed because it's not a definitive answer, but also I can only really answer as a fan, right?"

She continued: "My theory is this: It comes down to if you're an optimist or a pessimist. If you're an optimist, maybe it was okay [for] them living that way, and the branch wasn't so severe that it didn't need to be pruned, and that meant that they could stay together. Maybe the romantics can say somehow that managed to exist. And then the pessimists [think], ‘They probably got pruned (laughs).'"

Obviously, Kate's decision to play it coy will most likely irritate a lot of MCU fans that have been seeking clarity but when you think about it, Herron's intriguing answer could end up being a diversion and for all we know, her hesitance to give a straightforward explanation may have something to do with the issue potentially being addressed in a future Phase Four project. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

All episodes of Loki are now streaming on Disney+.
