Logan Director James Mangold On The Fanaticism Of The Star Wars Fanbase

Rabid Star Wars fans have been causing quite a scene on social media the past few months. Not only have they driven actors like Star Wars: The Last Jedi actress Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico) and prequel trilogy actor Ahmed Best (Jar Jar Binks) to the edge, but they've also been calling for insane requests like remaking The Last Jedi or taking the film out of Star Wars canon.

Last week, Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie got pulled into a toxic thread on Twitter, and the experience has somehow ruined the filmmaker's desire to join the Star Wars franchise.

Now, Logan director James Mangold has decided to give his two cents about the toxic behavior of the fanbase, calling out on the fanaticism that's been driving filmmakers and artists away.

Of course, a few folks on Twitter came out to disagree. Mangold then came to the defend McQuarrie and The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, saying that both filmmakers aren't owned by the franchises they work for. The director also reminds fans that while Star Wars might be important to them, they ought to handle their "disappointments the way Yoda might, as opposed to Darth."

Mangold makes a pretty strong case. While we all might have different opinions about the way a Star Wars film ought to be made, we can all give our opinions respectfully. There's no need for ad hominems and personal attacks.

Lucasfilm's latest release, Solo: A Star Wars Story, is currently screening in cinemas.
