Locke and Key Season 2 is Already Being Written, Even if it Hasn't Been Greenlit Yet

Locke and Key could be the next big hit from Netflix, giving fans an intriguing premise and some creepy visuals to get excited by. The fact that it's also based on an excellent comic book not made by Marvel or DC means that Netflix is hoping for another Umbrella Academy-like success, even if this has a completely different story. While we're all hoping that the first season does well, Executive Producer Carlton Cruise confirmed that they're already working on the second one.

Even though Netflix has yet to greenlight a second season. Best be prepared I guess?

Cuse confirmed the news during an interview with GameSpot, saying "We're writing Season 2, even though it hasn't been greenlit. We're working in a room." It's good to see them plan for a possible second season in advance so the story feels more natural, though we're hoping that this first one is good enough to warrant a follow-up.

Interestingly, when asked about the show diverging away from the original source material, Cuse had this to say:

We've spent a lot of time talking with Joe [Hill], and I think, in concert with Joe, we'll figure out the answer to that question. I mean, it is a cool ending, but again, the show's diverging from the comics and it becomes something [else]. We want to be sure that the ending works for the TV series and we're not just forcing ourselves into an ending for endings' sake.

Since Netflix does allow writers to be creative, we are looking forward to the possible changes made. As long as they feel like they're within the comic's themes then most of us will be okay with whatever they do differently.

Locke and Key will be coming to Netflix on February 7.
