Taking a page out of Quentin Tarantino's playbook, Diablo Cody is coming up with her own cinematic universe. After having confirmed her films are set in the same universe, avid fans can't help but wonder if Lisa Frankenstein is a Jennifer's Body prequel. Here's what we know.

Lisa Frankenstein is a story about a teenager who resurrects a corpse that she's in love with. The movie was inspired by Mary Shelley's iconic novel and stars Kathryn Newton, Cole Sprouse, and Liza Soberano.

Meanwhile, Diablo Cody's earlier film, Jennifer's Body, follows a teenage girl who was resurrected by a demon after she was sacrificed by a band.

She then goes around and kills her classmates and eats them. Jennifer's Body starred Amanda Seyfried, Megan Fox, Johnny Simmons, Adam Brody, and Amy Sedaris.

Since the two share a common theme, viewers can't help but wonder if Lisa Frankenstein is a Jennifer's Body prequel. Unfortunately, screenwriter, Diablo Cody has not shared anything that would spoil the upcoming movie.

Cody told Deadline:

“I am just declaring that this movie takes place in the same universe. I have decided that. I will not say that you’d see any overt references to that but I’m saying it.”

With Cody's confirmation that the two films revolve in the same universe, this led her fans to think that a Jennifer's Body reboot or sequel could be possible.

In her interview, Cody said that this could be the "final push that I need to actually make it happen. It's hard to get things made these days."

When Jennifer's Body was released in 2009, it met harsh comments from its critics. Not to mention, the film was poorly marketed so it was considered a "commercial and critical disaster."

This made Cody nervous about revisiting the horror-comedy genre. But in the later years, Jennifer's Body started to gain a solid fanbase that appreciated it.

After that, the film became a cult classic. This led Cody to regain her confidence in the genre, which led her to create Lisa Frankenstein.

While talks of a reboot have not yet been confirmed, a sequel to the cult favorite could be in the works.

Cody was asked about the possibility of a sequel to Jennifer's Body in an interview with Bloody Disgusting. She answered:

"Yes! I want to do a sequel. I am not done with Jennifer’s Body. I just need to find…I need to partner with people who believe in it [sic] as much as I do and that hasn’t really happened yet. I need someone to believe in it who has a billion dollars. At first, I just thought, "Oh where was this audience when I needed it?", and then I realized they were like…seven. And then some people who maybe didn’t appreciate it at the time have come around, and now I’m just like, "There’s no saltiness, now I’m just happy."

Will Lisa Frankenstein follow Jennifer's Body's audience reception too? Hopefully not, since it deserves all the praise it could get upon its release.
