Liam Neeson Thought Jar Jar Binks Actor Ahmed Best was ‘The Next Eddie Murphy’

While the Star Wars franchise is known for its amazing movies, the fanbase has been infamous for its toxic members. Several actors from the Prequel Trilogy had found their careers ruined, and Qui-Gon actor Liam Neeson expresses his regret about how things turned out for Jar Jar Binks actor Ahmed Best.

Talking to THR, Neeson expressed how he was distressed on how the fans had basically ruined Best's career. The site writes:

"[Best] came into a lot of criticism, I mean to the point where it really hurt his career. And I have to say when I was making that film … he was probably one of the funniest guys and talented guys I have ever worked with." Neeson added that he was so impressed, he told his manager that he believed Best could be the next Eddie Murphy. "And I still believe that."

If you've been following the news cycles, you'll know that Best had even been driven to the point of suicide thanks to the hateful fandom. Thank goodness he was able to save himself, seeing that the kids who grew up loving Jar Jar are now coming out to express their appreciation, and now Best has the role of Jedi Master Beq in Star Wars Jedi: Temple Challenge. I know it's just a game show, but hopefully, it opens doors for him to appear in a canon series—maybe that Young Mace Windu project which is said to be in development.

Even now the Star Wars fandom is dealing with toxic members, and the kids who grew up loving the Prequels are now the adults bashing the Sequel Trilogy endlessly. Hopefully, the kids who grew up with Rey, Finn, and Poe learn to break the cycle of hate and learn to appreciate any new Star Wars material that comes out in the future.

For now, fans wait for The Mandalorian Season 2 which hits Disney+ on Oct. 30.
