One of the major comic book news that dominated the cycle last year is the cancellation of the Batgirl movie, an unprecedented move that shocked both fans and the industry alike since no studio has ever scrapped a higher-budget film that has already been shot and spent millions of.
The decision was also met with disappointment from fans and the people who were involved in the making of the film since all the hard work was gone in an instant and we will never see Leslie Grace's take on the beloved DC hero despite revealing the first-look photo during production.
Recently, Grace posted a reel on her Instagram account where it gave us another full look at her Batgirl costume from the canceled movie that was remarkably different from the first-look photo that they released. The footage was only a few seconds long, but it was still a notable look.
You can check the photo here courtesy of the Twitter account @BatgirlFilm:
The costume seen here is very different from the first-look photo since this has more leather material and is wrinkled while the other one is more armory and sturdier. It sounds like the film would have featured two costumes all throughout and this is our first and only glimpse of what could have been.
This is certainly bittersweet for fans since we will never get a chance to see the film in its entirety except with the photos that they've been posting on social media. The year 2022 was tough for people involved in the film due to the news and, as some fans have noted, it was planned to release around this time.
With all the changes that are coming in the DC franchise, who knows, maybe James Gunn and Peter Safran will consider the character of Batgirl again, and perhaps they could even invite Grace for another chance to play the character. The chances might be unlikely for now, but the possibility is still out there.
