Legend of Korra Comic Reveals More LGBTQ Characters Besides Korra and Asami

Avatar: The Legend of Korra may have ended back in 2014, but Korra's story continues in the form of the Legend of Korra comic which is still ongoing. As it turns out, the comic has revealed to us more LGBT characters other than Korra and Asami.

Check them out:

As it turns out, Kya (Aang and Katara's waterbender daughter) was also gay, and Avatar Kiyoshi was bisexual. What's more, homophobia actually exists in this universe as well, and the Air Nomads were the first society to be accepting of them.

Also a bonus, we actually get to see Korra and Asami kiss in the comics. Their relationship was left a bit ambiguous by the end of the actual show.

When it comes to writing LGBTQ issues in the Korra comic, Avatar creator Michael DiMartino had told Entertainment Weekly:

"I didn't want to bog down the story with a lengthy history lesson, but it was important to address how LGBTQ individuals were treated in the general context of the Avatar universe. Bryan and I thought the best approach was to view LGBTQ representation through the lens of the different cultures. Admittedly, the background I wrote in Turf Wars volume 1 is brief, but I think it provides a context to LGBTQ history in the Avatar world, which could be expanded upon in the future."

Part three of The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars comes out Aug. 22.
