Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo is absolutely one of the many Kdramas of Lee Joon Gi that stuck on viewers’ hearts even after years since it ended. Aside from the star-studded cast, the storyline continues to hook viewers and makes them stay until the last second of the final episode of the series.
On March 31, Lee Joon Gi visited the MMTG studio to promote his new Kdrama Again My Life.
During the talk segment, the show’s host, Jaejae, presents a timeline of Joon Gi’s works as an actor, starting from his first-ever major acting role in the 2005 Korean film The King and the Clown, and even his comical commercials and red carpet appearances that had the whole country ablaze.
Lee Joon Gi Hopes For A Reunion With Scarlet Heart Ryeo Cast Members
When Jaejae started talking about the 2016 SBS Kdrama Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, she pointed out how the cast members look like a kingdom itself as it stars huge names in the industry, such as IU, EXO Baekhyun, and Nam Joo Hyuk.
Spearheaded by Lee Joon Gi as Wang So, Scarlet Heart Ryeo concluded with 20 episodes and left fans of the show longing for a season 2.
Jaejae also expressed her wish for Scarlet Heart Ryeo Season 2 as she shared how frustrated she was with the ending.
“I also want Scarlet Heart Ryeo Season 2. Actually, the cast talked a lot about season 2, but it’s something that is difficult to happen.” Lee Joon Gi says when asked about his thoughts about the popular Kdrama returning for another season.
“I think when Scarlet Heart Ryeo Season 2 happens or when the cast meets for a reunion, that day will be a party. The atmosphere will be like in the drama, where Haesoo meets the princes again.”
Lee Joon Gi Shares His Comments About The Unreleased Ending Scene Of Scarlet Heart Ryeo
During the MMTG guesting, Lee Joon Gi mentioned that there was another ending scene filmed with IU’s character. He is wearing a suit and comes to the crying Haesoo and hands her a handkerchief.
Joon Gi recalls the ending scene, “I was a stranger. I don’t know who Hae-soo is. But Haesoo hopes that I remember her. I think I just looked at her and left with a smile.”
As to why that ending scene was not aired, Joon Gi says that the series director was worried until the end.
It turns out that he was contemplating whether to end Scarlet Heart Ryeo with a deeper and painful lingering feeling or provide a feeling of hope along with an open ending.
Joon Gi concludes that whatever ending it was, the viewers' feelings will stay the same. “I believe the director would have had regrets no matter what ending scene he chose to air. I believe he knows it would be better if the drama leaves a more emotional effect. To be honest, I thought it would be released as a DVD, but the idea was blocked."
When asked whether he could show the full ending scene to his fans, Lee Joon Gi joked, “I like it when my fans become sad so that I won’t show it to them!”
