There's no denying that the Star Wars franchise has been killing it on streaming and since The Mandalorian's 2019 debut, Lucasfilm has released a slew of shows that have kept fans quite satiated.
However, one project has been shrouded in uncertainty over the last couple of years and that is the standalone Lando Calrissian series supposedly top-billed by Donald Glover.
The project was first announced in late 2020 but has yet to see the light of day. Turns out, even the show's writer is as confused as we are regarding the true status of the spinoff series.
Star Wars: Lando Writer Claims It's Been Three Years Since He Last Heard from Lucasfilm
Speaking with The Direct, Haunted Mansion director Justin Simien offered some concerning updates regarding the show's status. Simien, who also serves as Lando's writer claims that the last time he heard from Lucasfilm was in 2020 fresh off the project's announcement.
Since then, he's been left in the dark regarding the show's development, saying he has "no idea what's going on with it".
Simien shared: "I certainly poured my heart and spent a lot of time working with them to put together a really great show. It feels like everybody loves it. And, you know, I was told we had to put a pause on it because of scheduling, and the next update I got [was in 2020], some years ago. So I don't know, I have no idea what's going on with it."

The director's latest statement seems to contradict what Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy previously said. At this year's Star Wars Celebration in London (via IGN), the executive eased the worry of fans and said Lando is still in the works.
She even said that Glover is "very excited" about it and is still on board to do the series, despite persistent rumors claiming the show has been officially shelved.
