Kylo Ren’s Motivations May Have Been Explained Through Deleted Creature

Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) might be one of the lead characters in Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy, however, there are moments in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker where it's difficult to understand the character's motivation. That includes the motivation behind Kylo Ren's search for the Sith Wayfinder at the beginning of the film.

Luckily, it seems a scrapped scene in Episode IX shows the original plot for Kylo Ren's quest, offering fans a deeper look into the driving force behind the villain's desire for the Sith Wayfinder.

In the novelization for The Rise of Skywalker, fans get to read about a scene where Kylo Ren meets the Eye of Webbish Bog, otherwise known as The Oracle. A spider-like being locked in symbiosis with a blind giant, The Eye of Webbish Bog was tasked with the guardianship of the Sith Wayfinder of Darth Vader.

It gives Kylo Ren directions to find the Wayfinder and warns the wayward son of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Leia (Carrie Fisher) about incoming the danger.

Here's how the book describes the Oracle:

"A giant emerged, a hairless creature sheening with wetness, bits of lake detritus clinging to its pasty skin. Its eyes were squeezed shut, but it could still see after a fashion because draped over its massive bald head and across one shoulder was a second creature with long spidery tentacles. The two were locked in symbiosis. Kylo sensed the giant's pain, as though it were a slave to the spidery being that clung to it. Yet neither could it survive alone."

Interestingly enough, Inverse suggests that Kylo is able to empathize with the creature because he himself is locked in a symbiotic relationship with Rey. As Star Wars fans know now, Ben Solo is connected to Rey through a Force Dyad.

This is Kylo Ren's main motivation in the film. Because he is connected to Rey, he acts in ways that draw him closer towards her.
