Kylo Ren Visits a Clone Laboratory in The Rise of Skywalker Concept Art

We know that a lot of ideas were dropped for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker from Kylo meeting the "oracle" to Rey wielding a dual lighstaber, but concept art has a fun way of showing us what could have been. What's interesting is, a new piece of concept art from Adam Brockbank reveals a visit to a clone facility in the film.

Check it out:

Besides the art style that looks amazing, I'm now curious about what part of the story this was supposed to be in. While we do get a vat of pickled Snokes at the beginning of the film, the facility here looks way too clean to be the same lair as the Emperor's in the movie. Then again, this is concept art, so maybe it was almost a clean facility that was housing a weak old Palpatine.

Personally, I was hoping that we got another Clone Army in TROS, and it's revealed that all the Sith troopers were clones of Anakin Skywalker. That would have explained how the Emperor was able to gather an army in secret, and it adds another layer of tragedy to Anakin.

While The Last Jedi had been a critical success, The Rise of Skywalker was a bomb in terms of a finale. Not only did it actively retcon what TLJ has set before it, the film felt too focused on leaning into nostalgia rather than bringing in something new and organic to the series.

As someone who loved The Last Jedi, TROS was very hard to watch, but it is what it is, and there's no use crying over spilled milk. In any case, the movie is still very visually stunning, and it has a lot of nice character moments. I just hope Lucasfilm and Disney will push forward in the future with more emphasis on creative rather than easy fanservice.

The next Star Wars property, The Mandalorian, returns to Disney+ on Oct. 30.
