The first episode begins with a monologue by Junta Shiraishi about how he perceived his socially invisible presence in middle school.

He explains that his photo was mistakenly pasted onto the graduation photo because they thought he was absent at the time.

Shiraishi believes that now that he is attending Harukakita High School, he will be unable to enjoy his youth due to his fading presence.

For example, his professor walks ahead of him and continues to ask where he is. His classmates must also look at him twice before acknowledging his presence.

It's also unfortunate that he compares his presence to the air that surrounds him. He is always present, but only one person notices him: Nagisa Kubo.

Shiraishi's seatmate, Nagisa Kubo, is the only person in the class who makes him feel visible.

Kubo, unlike Shiraishi, is a social butterfly. She is not only a good student, but she is also athletic, which is the polar opposite of Shiraishi.

Before class begins, Kubo muses on Shiraishi's invisible presence. She challenges Shiraishi to stand up in the middle of the lecture after blackmailing him.

Shiraishi agrees to Kubo's dare because he has no other option. He bolts upright in the middle of class and then sits on his heels.

To Kubo's delight, he slowly stands on his chair, raising his left foot in the air.

His professor suddenly notices Shiraishi and motions for him to sit down. Kubo laughs at him, but Shiraishi only wonders when his professor notices him.

During the break, Kubo expresses her admiration for Shiraishi, claiming that he is the main character in class.

Shiraishi, in turn, informs Kubo that she was the antagonist who made it happen.

As a result, Kubo demands that Shiraishi inform her that she is the heroine, not the adversary.

Kubo goes for a walk with her friends after school, and they start talking about Shiraishi.

They were all overjoyed after seeing Shiraishi twice that day. Furthermore, they discuss how Shiraishi is more difficult to find than a four-leaf clover.

Shiraishi, in fact, is as hard to come by as a Tsuchinoko or a Kappa. Nonetheless, Kubo has no trouble locating Shiraishi.

The next day, Kubo is furious with Shiraishi for ignoring her morning greeting.

While Shiraishi doesn't understand what's bothering Kubo, the latter insists on punishing him.

Kubo suddenly sits on Shiraishi's lap after recalling that people frequently sit on his lap due to his invisible presence.

True enough, nobody noticed Kubo sitting on Shiraishi’s lap. She tries to make noises to see if it makes a difference, but Shiraishi's brain is clogged from being so close to her.

Because of this, Kubo decides to forgive Shiraishi for not responding to her morning greetings properly. But still, Shiraishi couldn’t get what Kubo was mad about.

Shiraishi believes Kubo is making fun of him because she sees him as a fiddle toy to pass the time. He wants to know Kubo's reasoning, but she doesn't respond, further perplexing Shiraishi.

The episode then cuts to another scene in which Kubo wonders why Shiraishi always questions the teachers after class.

Shiraishi explains that he is simply informing their teachers that he did not miss class.

After all, even if he tries his hardest to speak loud enough for them to notice him, his teachers frequently overlook his presence.

Kubo decides to play another prank on Shiraishi while thinking about this topic.

She raises her hand during class to force Shiraishi to answer the teacher's question, even though he doesn't know the answer. Fortunately, Kubo knows the answer and secretly assists Shiraishi.

In the end, everything worked out fine, and Shiraishi seemed happier than usual.

Kubo then starts another conversation with Shiraishi about the latest messaging app for mobile phones.

Unfortunately, before Kubo could inquire about Shiraishi's details, her friends approached her, and Shiraishi left for home.

During the holiday, Kubo notices Shiraishi sitting idly in a nearby park. Shiraishi explains that he was about to purchase a video game when he was distracted by a pack of tissues.

Despite his obvious gestures to obtain one, he was unable to obtain a pack of tissues due to his invisible presence.

Eventually, Shiraishi was able to obtain one pack, but he had forgotten about his original goal of purchasing the Sword and Magic video game he had been anticipating.

Kubo decides to change the subject and pulls out her phone to take a photo of Shiraishi. She wants to see if the facial recognition system on her phone can recognize Shiraishi.

Kubo moves closer to Shiraishi to put it to the test, but only until her phone's camera detects Shiraishi. She took a picture with Shiraishi for the first time, much to her delight.

She also takes advantage of this opportunity to befriend Shiraishi on the most recent messaging app. More importantly, she persuaded Shiraishi to hang out with her another day.

Shiraishi and Kubo exchange messages on the application before the episode concludes.
