Kraven the Hunter Star Confirms the Movie’s R-Rated Tone

The next live-action Spider-Verse film that Sony is set to release is Kraven the Hunter, which is slated to arrive in theaters this fall. However, while production already wrapped a year ago, we still have not heard any significant updates about the upcoming film.

Yesterday, during their presentation at CinemaCon, Sony finally shared some exciting details about Kraven the Hunter. Its star Aaron Taylor-Johnson presented exclusive footage to the attendees where he revealed that the film is going to be R-rated, making it the first Spider-Verse film to do so.

"Will it be rated R? F*ck yes, it’s going to be rated R," the actor declared.

According to Deadline's report, the exclusive footage started with the titular character facing off against Australian mercenaries, stabbing them in the neck, and biting off their noses, which gave the attendees the first glimpse at the film's R-rated tone.

Afterward, they showed Russell Crowe, playing Kraven's dad, taking on the mentor role as he teaches him to respect the world around him. There's also a shot of a young Kraven feeling the spirit of a dead cow.

The footage also showed a glimpse at Fred Hechinger as Kraven’s brother Chameleon and a shot of Ariana DeBose as Calypso, who screamed to the titular character, "You’re a goddamn lunatic!"

The exclusive look at the film ended with the reveal of The Rhino as seemingly the main antagonist. "Don’t you want to know why they call me The Rhino?" the character said as his arm morphed.

It is unknown yet where the exclusive footage that was shown to the attendees at CinemaCon will be released publicly. However, there is a huge possibility that we will see some of the shots during the first trailer that they'll release soon.

It is interesting to hear that the film is going to be R-rated which is very fitting on the titular character's DNA and it gives them more leeway to do a lot of violent scenes than in the typical PG-13 fare.

While it is exciting that it will be R-rated, it is still not a guarantee that it will live up to the quality, but it does suggest that they are taking a no-holds-barred approach to tell the origins of one of the most beloved villains in the Spider-Man comics.
