Kraven the Hunter: Fear Street Trilogy's Fred Hechinger Rumored to Be In Talks to Play Chameleon

One of the films that Sony is currently developing for their Spider-Man Universe franchise is Kraven the Hunter which will focus on the titular antihero played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The project has been in development for a while now and it looks like it is moving forward to the production stage soon as it was recently reported that Russell Crowe has also joined the film. Now, it looks like another actor has been cast to join the film to play a known Marvel villain in the comics.

According to Giant Freakin Robot, Fear Street Trilogy star Fred Hechinger is currently in talks to play Chameleon in Kraven the Hunter. However, the deal is not official yet and there is still a possibility that he won't be cast in the end. His potential casting comes after recently-minted Oscar nominee and X-Men star Kodi Smit-McPhee turned down the role due to a scheduling conflict.

We do have to take note that this news didn't come from the major trades nor officially confirmed by Sony so we have to take it with a grain of salt for now. If the report is true, it is interesting to hear the possibility that Hechinger might be taking the role. He might not be a household name right now even though he has starred in high-profile projects, it is definitely going to be a breakout role for him in terms of worldwide recognition if he ends up getting cast on the role.

In case you're not familiar with the character, Chameleon is a Russian-born villain and a well-known adversary of Spider-Man, dating back to the very first issue of The Amazing Spider-Man, who is a master of disguise known for his ability to impersonate virtually anybody. He is also the half-brother of Kraven the Hunter in the comics so he does have a major connection to the titular character.

Hechinger has proven in films such as News of the World, The Woman in the Window, and Netflix's Fear Street Trilogy as well as in his TV roles on The White Lotus and Pam & Tommy that he is one of the best rising actors today in Hollywood so he would be a great choice if he gets officially cast on the role. Before he became a professional actor, he was a kid reporter for Scholastic in which one of the well-known figures that he interviewed is Andrew Garfield for The Amazing Spider-Man. It looks like he was already destined early on to be part of the Spider-Man Universe which we'll find out soon if it's actually going to happen.
