There's no denying that Marvel has become a juggernaut and a true force to be reckoned with in the film industry with the existence of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Sony's own Spider-Man film property. We've also confirmed that both universes can actually collide with one another thanks to the whole multiverse concept but despite that, Sony is still pretty determined to establish their own shared universe featuring a who's who of characters from the Spidey mythos.

As we're gearing up for the live-action debut of Kraven the Hunter who will also headline his own spinoff film under the Sony banner, it was revealed that the project starring MCU alumnus Aaron Taylor-Johnson almost featured another ex-Marvel actor who surprisingly turned down the production company's offer.

According to a scoop from The Ankler reporter Jeff Sneide, X-Men star Kodi Smit-McPhee was tapped to play Chameleon in the upcoming film but was forced to reject the offer because of his packed schedule. Smith-McPhee, who received his first Academy Award nomination this week starred in X-Men: Apocalypse and X-Men: Dark Phoenix as Kurt Wagner aka Nightcrawler.

I gotta say, while Kodi would have been a tremendous casting choice to play one of Spider-Man's fiercest foes, I think it was the right call to turn the project down. And with him being an Oscar-nominated star, it would only make his name in Hollywood an even bigger deal and that means should Marvel approach him again, it'll most likely be for a heftier part in the franchise.

Sony Pictures' Kraven the Hunter project is expected to begin filming later this year.
