Kirsten Dunst recently opened up about how the producers of Spider-Man wanted to change her appearance during the making of the film.

The actress notably played Peter Parker's love interest Mary Jane Watson in the Tobey Maguire-led Spider-Man trilogy. It remains one of the most popular roles in her illustrious career so far.

However, despite the popularity that she garnered from starring in the film, her experience wasn't exactly pleasant as she also admitted recently that filming the iconic upside-down kissing scene was "miserable."

Speaking with GQ, Dunst recalled the moment during the making of Spider-Man when the producers tried to change her teeth and have it straightened.

"I was like, ‘No, I like my teeth,’" she told them in response.

During the film's London premiere, the actress wore dark lipstick and a black, punky Rodarte dress. However, her look received unsatisfactory feedback from Sony.

"The studio was like, ‘She looks very goth’. And they didn’t like that, probably because they wanted me to look like a sexy young woman who would appeal to a broader range of whoever gets seats in the theatre. I was never that girl. I never did it," she said.

Fortunately, Dunst had the opposite experience when she worked with Sofia Coppola in The Virgin Suicides as she gave her confidence in her look.

"I had Sofia [Coppola] at 16, who thought I was so cool and pretty when I didn’t. She was like, ‘I love your teeth!’" she shared.

"I didn’t realize at the time. I realized it [later] in decisions I had made. Not to change teeth, not to blow up my lips, or whatever it is that everyone wants to look like. I still know to this day, I’m not gonna screw up my face and look like a freak. You know what I mean? I’d rather get old and do good roles."

It is unfortunate to hear that Dunst had that kind of experience when she was making the film. Now, times have changed and we can assume that the behavior is no longer tolerable.

So far, the actress has not made her return to the comic book genre although some fans would definitely be happy to see her play Mary Jane Watson again similar to what Maguire did in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
