It's been a week since the trailer for Kingdom: Ashin of the North, a Special for the popular k-drama Kingdom dropped, and fans already crave more updates! The first South Korean Netflix original is a breath of fresh air in the zombie sub-genre and proclaimed by many to be a masterpiece of its kind – definitely, a show that deserves a Season 3. So, is it going to get it, and when will it release on Netflix?

Kingdom Plot: What Is It About?

Based on the webcomic series The Kingdom of the Gods, written by Kim Eun-hee and illustrated by Yang-Kyung-il, the horror show is set during Korea's Joseon Dynasty. Season 1 follows Lee Chang, the Crown Prince, and his subjects, who investigate a political conspiracy but soon find out that they have to navigate a plague that results in the dead unnaturally rising.

Over the course of the series, Lee Chang tries to survive and save his people from a zombie apocalypse that is getting out of control.

Kingdom Season 3: When Will It Be Released on Netflix?

The first season of Kingdom premiered in 2019 while Season 2 first appeared in 2020. Currently, both seasons are on Netflix, but what about Season 3?

Unfortunately, as of June 2020, no announcement has been made about the release date of Kingdom Season 3. But this doesn't mean that Kingdom Season 3 is not happening at some point in the future. It appears that the beloved show might not have a fully linear development with one season every single year, and fans might be worried that the Special will be an opportunity to just wrap things up without any more content.

Don't give up on hope though; it appears there's more in store for us, so Kingdom: Ashin of the North might well be a turning point, rather than a conclusion. In an April 2020 interview, writer Kim Eun-hee, who is working not only with the webcomic but also with the Netflix series, revealed that she was working on a new script, without this meaning that she has given up on Kingdom. In fact, she feels there's enough material to go as far as 10 Seasons!

With no solid announcement, it's a bit early to get excited about that, but it's better than nothing. Hopefully, news about Ashin of the North will be followed by news of Kingdom Season 3 soon enough!
