Kevin Smith Says Hawkeye Should Die In The Opening Episode Of His Own Series

Marvel fans would probably love the idea of a Hawkeye TV series. Kevin Smith, on the other hand, feels quite differently, saying that the only way a Hawkeye TV show would work if Jeremy Renner's Clint Barton were to die in the very first episode of the series.

Last week, Disney announced that it was on a couple of limited series for Marvel heroes that weren't given standalone movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A couple of heroes named were Tom Hiddleston's Loki and Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlett Witch. The rest was left up in the air, allowing fans to speculate the other characters who'd be given their very own series.

Brainstorming the most ideal MCU characters for the project on his podcast, Fatman Beyond, Smith shot down the suggestion that Hawkeye could be one of the worthy characters in the MCU.

"Oh, God, come on. Didn't they take like...Remember in the middle of the Age of Ultron, they showed us a whole episode of The Hawkeye Show and nobody wanted to watch it? We all tried to change the channel but it was a movie so we had to sit through it and shit," the cult director and pop culture connoisseur reminded his audience.

According to Smith, the only Hawkeye show that he'd be interested in is where the sharpshooter gets killed in the very first episode of the series.

"The Hawkeye show that I'd be interested in is like, opening episode he gets killed and we spend the rest of the episodes with everyone going, ‘He was a pretty good guy.' And then they go on some adventure and $#!+ like that," the director suggested.

The filmmaker's take on a possible Hawkeye series can seem a bit strange to some Marvel fans. Like Sebastian Stan's Winter Soldier, Hawkeye is a pretty popular character among fans, and there's been a lot of excitement growing over the sharpshooter's upcoming appearance in Avengers 4.
