Cult director and pop culture connoisseur Kevin Smith has just decided to change the title of his Fatman on Batman podcast series, dropping the Batman title and rebranding the podcast with a special live episode set to air next week on September 15 to celebrate "Batman Day."

Apparently, Smith's podcast series will now take on the name Fatman Beyond, a playful little nod to Batman Beyond, one of DC's most loved animated series. According to the director, he just had to change the name of his podcast because while Warner Brothers has been pretty lenient about him using the Batman name for his podcast for so long, he just wanted to avoid the conflict. That, and apparently fans have started complaining that the title might be falsely advertising a fat man, something that Smith now clearly isn't. Guess the dietary and lifestyle changes has seeped into Smith's work as well.

"Sooner or later, the ax would fall. Then, couple that with the fact that a lot of people were like, ‘You've lost too much weight; it's false advertising.' So it felt like it was time for a change," the director explained on his podcast.

Together with co-host Marc Bernardin, Smith took suggestions from fans on the internet, deciding on Fatman Beyond for the new name of his show – a name that not only served as a reference to Batman Beyond but also alluded to the changes that Smith's gone through after his heart attack.

September 15 has been set as the official launch of Smith and Bernardin's Fatman Beyond.
