Kevin Smith Calls Aquaman “Everything A Movie Is Supposed To Be”

Aquaman has been making waves at the box office the past two or so weeks, and now as the DC Extended Universe entry continues its reign, pop culture connoisseur and director Kevin Smith gives his own review of the movie.

Just like many fans of Jason Momoa's first standalone movie as Arthur Curry, the DC Universe director had a pretty swell time seeing Aquaman in the cinema, and a new video review Smith details what he loved about the movie. Critics have called the film a visual spectacle, and Smith agrees, describing the movie as a "visually sumptuous treat" that "everything a movie is supposed to be."

"Can you believe, this movie is at about $750 million right now," Smith explained in his review. "Aquaman's going to make a billion dollars. Go back in time and tell somebody that. That Aquaman's going to make a billion dollars. Makes sense now, because my God, it's visually sumptuous. Aquaman is everything a movie is supposed to be. When you put down your two bits or 10 bucks or 20 depending on where you go, you want to escape. Take me somewhere. Show me some s*** I've never seen before. That's what you want in a movie. I never mad movies like that, I was like I'm going to show you a convenience store, something you saw probably right before you went to the cinema."

Smith isn't wrong at all. Sure, Aquaman might have a pretty linear narrative and poor lines that make you question the film's script, but James Wan's world-building skill is magnificent. It's a treat going to all the different regions of the sea world. Watching the film makes you feel blow away by how massive it is – Aquaman truly is a spectacle.

Because of its visual strength, Aquaman is currently enjoying the top spot at the box office, with analysts predicting that the film might reach the $1 billion milestone by the end of January.
