It looks like there are rumors circulating online saying that Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy wanted to make a few tweaks to Star Wars: The Mandalorian – edits that might have cost the series its overwhelming success.
According to Overlord DVD on YouTube, word on the street has it that Kennedy wants to have the second season of The Mandalorian tie in together with The Rise of Skywalker. The Lucasfilm President reportedly hopes to have the series tie in with Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) and Rey (Daisy Ridley) so that it could explain how Darth Sidious survived all these years and how he built up his army and fleet.
The rumor claims that Kennedy is hoping that the series might retcon the awful twists in turns in The Rise of Skywalker that were never really addressed in the film. The pitch has Mando (Pedro Pascal) looking for Baby Yoda's home. The quest then leads into the Palpatine storyline in The Rise of Skywalker.
Fortunately, it seems like Jon Favreau wasn't all that happy with the pitch. The Mandalorian showrunner decided to go over Kennedy's head by approaching Disney CEO Bob Iger to consult over the product. Now, Kennedy is supposed to distance herself from The Mandalorian.
While it does seem likely for Lucasfilm to plant explanations for The Rise of Skywalker in the second season of The Mandalorian, we'd like readers to take the report with a grain salt. You can't trust every rumor that runs up and down the mill online.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is now streaming on Disney+.
