Kate Middleton Admits To Making Meghan Markle Cry, Prince Harry Claims

Prince Harry recounted a secret meeting between him, Meghan Markle, Prince William and Kate Middleton in December 2018 after news of Markle making Middleton cry made headlines. During the meeting, the Princess of Wales reportedly admitted it was her who made the former Suits star cry.

"Kate got things rolling straightaway by acknowledging that these stories in the papers about Meg making her cry were totally false," he wrote in his memoir, Page Six reported.

"'I know, Meghan, that I was the one who made you cry,'" Middleton reportedly said during the meeting.

However, even if Middleton reportedly admitted making Markle cry, Prince Harry said she would not disclose it to the public for a reason — to protect her reputation and the monarchy.

Palace Allegedly Protects Kate Middleton And The Monarchy

The Duke of Sussex claimed that his wife appreciated their sister-in-law's apology, and he was relieved that Middleton took responsibility for the issue. However, Markle questioned why they didn't tell the truth.

"Meg appreciated the apology but wanted to know why the paper had said this, and what was being done to correct them? In other words: Why isn't your office standing up for me?" he added.

Middleton reportedly became "flustered," and Prince William allegedly "chimed in with some very supportive-sounding evasions."

However, Prince Harry shared his own take on the whole incident. For him, it was down to protecting the monarchy and keeping the Waleses' reputation intact because telling the truth would mean Middleton admitting to the public that she made Markle cry.

"But I already knew the truth," Prince Harry claimed.

"No one at the Palace could phone the correspondent, because that would invite the inevitable retort: Well if the story's wrong, what's the real story?"

He added that it would be unlikely for the palace to call the press and tell the truth because it would protect the future queen, and "the monarchy, always at all costs, had to be protected."
