Karl Urban Thinks Marvel Is Ready For A Female Thor Film

Marvel's been pretty secretive about all the films they plan for the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 finish and signal the end of Phase 3. There's been a lot of speculation going on, not only because Phase 4 will indicate the growth of the Marvel Cosmic Universe, but also because Marvel Cinematic Universe's Avengers and Guardians are expected to give way to new stars in the franchise.

While James Gunn has indicated that he has more plans for the comics original Guardians in the Marvel Cosmic Universe, little is known about the Avengers replacements, and fans are hoping that Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) pass the torch down to their respective comic inheritors.

Speaking with MFR to promote Marvel's upcoming film, Thor: Ragnarok, Marvel star Karl Urban expresses his hopes of seeing a female Thor appear in the next phase of the MCU.

"I think it's time - I think it's well overdue, absolutely. I'd like to see that movie, why not."

In Jason Aaron's Thor series, Odinson finds himself passing on his hammer to a mysterious woman who is later revealed to be a cancer-stricken Jane Foster. Though some fans were a bit shocked by the reveal, Foster as the new Thor has become a fan-favorite character.

However, while it would be great if Marvel would consider a female Thor in Phase 4 of the MCU, one has to wonder whether the franchise would bring back Natalie Portman, or reboot Jane Foster. After all, the actress has been pretty open about her ambivalence with the franchise.

Let's just wait and see.

Thor: Ragnarok premieres November 3, 2017.
