A while ago, Paramount Pictures announced that the main Kelvin timeline cast is returning in the fourth Star Trek film. However, we learned afterward that they are still in negotiations with the actors and none of them have officially signed on to the project. Since then, we haven't heard any updates about its progress. Now, one of the cast members has recently shared a promising update that suggests that the film is still happening.
Per Screen Rant, during a recent interview with the British radio station Radio X, Karl Urban gave some promising updates on the highly-anticipated fourth Star Trek film. While he didn't say that the film is officially set in motion as the timing and logistics are still being worked out, he did assure us that it is still in the works and the cast would love to be back together.
"I have heard that [Star Trek 4] is happening, but I've been hearing that for the last three years. [Laughs]," Urban said. "Listen, all I know is that they're developing it, they're writing a script, and I know 100% that we all wanna come back and do it, so I think it's just a matter of timing and logistics at this point... Where there's a will there's a way, and there's definitely a will, so we would love to come back together and make one of those."
It is wonderful to hear that the film is still in the works since there are fans who have been anxious for any updates on its progress, especially considering that it's been years since the third film was released and it felt like a fourth film wasn't happening at all prior to the announcement given the long time that is has been between them.
We will find out within the rest of the year whether the film is still happening as negotiations with the cast are not finalized yet as far as we know. Production is planned to start by the end of the year and that is the time when we will definitely know whether the film is still happening. For now, all signs are leading in a positive direction.

The fourth Star Trek film is currently scheduled for release on December 22, 2023.
