Justice League Casts Amber Heard As Queen of Atlantis

Justice League has found its Mera, Queen of Atlantis.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice may be the big DC movie to arrive in theaters in a few days, but DC has been hard at work behind the scenes for its other movies.

According to ET Online, actress Amber Heard has confirmed on Thursday that she will be playing the wife of Aquaman, the undersea Queen of Atlantis, Mera in 2017's The Justice League Part One before starring in the 2018 standalone Aquaman film.

The 28-year-old actress also dished on her costume to the site. She said:

It's interesting. It's like, half suit of armor, half scales. It's strange... We're in the process of building it now, so it's coming along.

It's been rumored for quite a while that Heard is playing Mera. She'll be starring alongside Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa, who's set to play Aquaman in the two aforementioned DC movies.

It's interesting to hear the Queen of Atlantis' costume being likened to a "suit of armor." The character's costume has seen a couple of versions since being introduced in the 1960's, but mostly were of a green body suit that seemingly has scales. Heard's revelation about her costume could imply that Aquaman's wife won't be standing in the sidelines when his kingdom is presumably invaded.

Zack Snyder will helm the two-part Justice League films, while James Wan of Furious 7 is set to direct the solo Aquaman film.

Justice League: Part One is slated for release on November 17, 2017. Meanwhile, the Aquaman standalone will hit theaters on July 27, 2018.
