Justice League: Aquaman Apparently Hates Atlanteans

Though we caught a glimpse of him in Batman v Superman, Aquaman (Jason Momoa) will officially be introduced to us in the upcoming Justice League. Despite being the King of Atlantis in the lore, Momoa explains that the DCEU version of Aquaman basically hates his own kind.

Talking to SFX Magazine (via ComicBookMovie), Momoa explains:

"He doesn't believe in himself, he doesn't know what to do with the powers he has… He's going through tons of loss. He hates Atlanteans. The fact that people are calling him 'Aquaman' right now - he couldn't give two sh*ts about anything Atlantean. So he's really not quite there yet."

So far, the Aquaman in the trailers seems like a social recluse, and though he helps people when he can, he seems to be short-tempered and prefers to work alone. We all know that he'll eventually suit up and help the Justice League fight Steppenwolf, but it's his journey that we all want to see unfold.

Going back to Aquaman's hate for Atlateans, I have a feeling that he's going to be outcast since he's part human. After all, only his mother is Atlantean, and his father seems to be a normal human. I think this is a ‘Jon Snow' type situation where the Atlanteans lose their legitimate heir to the throne, and the only one who is next in the bloodline is Arthur Curry. The only issue is, he's only half Atlantean.

I'm guessing his whole backstory won't play out in Justice League, but we'll probably see it fleshed out better in Aquaman.

Justice League comes out Nov. 17 this year, while Aquaman hits theaters Dec. 21, 2018.
