Hallyu stars are known for their dedication to their role. They undergo months of training if the character requires physical stunts or immerse themselves by taking classes to understand their roles better.

Meanwhile, there are some who gain or lose weight to fit with the description of a certain character but these stars need to learn how to smoke to portray a rebellious role.

Jun Ji Hyun

The 40-year-old star is famous for her rom-com Kdramas and movies and often plays a quirky protagonist like her breakthrough performance in My Sassy Girl.

She took on the role of chain-smoking documentary filmmaker Song Soo Jung opposite Hwang Jung Min.

Her character in A Man who was Superman is far different from her usual characters.

Aside from portraying the feisty female director, Jun Ji Hyun had to learn how to smoke, which is not her nature since the actress never even lit a cigarette in her life.

Following this, the actress often portrays the ideal female lead of Kdrama. Before mesmerizing viewers with her character as the Goblin's bride Ji Eun Tak and Kim Yumi in Yumi's Cells, Kim Go Eun appeared in the thriller crime movie Coin Locker Girl.

Son Ye Jin

Before portraying the South Korean heiress Yoon Se Ri in Crash Landing on You, Son ye Jin took on the role of yakuza boss Baak Jang Mi in the 2008 movie Open City.

Being a syndicate mastermind, she had to portray a specific image close to her role, one of which was being a chain smoker.

However, instead of gaining praise for her determination to play the role, viewers criticized her, noting that the smoking scene completely changed her sweet and innocent image.

Bae Suzy

The Hallyu star looked unrecognizable as she transformed into a rebellious character in the 2017 movie Real.

She made a cameo as a tattooist in the film led by Kim Soo Hyun, Lee Sung Min, and Sung Dong Il.

In the action crime thriller movie, Bae Suzy surprised viewers as she appeared wearing sultry clothes, heavy makeup, and a body covered with tattoos.

In addition, it was only the first time that fans saw a former nation's first love smoking cigarettes.
