Jujutsu Kaisen Manga To Hit 60 Million in Circulation Milestone on Christmas Day

Japanese manga publisher Shueisha announced this week that the upcoming release of the 18th volume of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga will reach 60 million copies in circulation. The count also includes digital downloads as well as copies that have not been sold.

Since the anime’s premiere in October 2020, sales and circulation of the manga skyrocket to 710%. The manga reached a milestone of 55 million copies in circulation as of September 27, 2021.

Jujutsu Kaisen was created by Gege Akutami in March 2018 for the Weekly Shonen Jump. The first three chapters of the manga were licensed and released in English by VIZ Media as part of Publisher Shueisha’s Jump Start initiative. Later on, VIZ Media released new chapters of the manga digitally when the company switched to its new Shonen Jump model in December 2018.

The popularity of the manga has paved way for an anime adaptation that premiered in Japan in October 2020 in a total of 24 episodes. The show is also available for streaming in North America and other regions.

The first and upcoming film of the franchise Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is scheduled to premiere in Japan on December 24. As of this time, there is still no word for international screenings. Aside from the anime film, a novel adaptation based on the film will also be released.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is based on Jujutsu Kaisen’s prequel story titled Jujutsu Kaisen 9 Tokyo Toritsu. The story is centered on the nervous high school student Yuta Okkotsu who is suffering from a serious problem that his childhood friend Rika turned into a Curse and his predicament was noticed by the teacher at Jujutsu High, Satoru Gojo. Jujutsu High is a school where the students learn to fight against different Curses. He convinces Yuta to enrol on the campus. But the question remains if he will be able to learn enough skills in time to save Rika.

The novel adaptation will be mostly based on the film that was script-written by Hiroshi Seko. The author of this novel adaptation is Baraddo Kitaguni. Aside from the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 novel, Kitaguni also wrote other novels for the Jujutsu Kaisen franchise. The manga creator, Gege Akutami is created for the original work and concept.

We are looking forward to more surprises in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen.
