The official Jujutsu Kaisen Twitter account has issued an apology to China after the account posted a tweet that has become controversial among Chinese fans.
It's no secret that Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has been a huge success around the globe. To celebrate this, the official Jujutsu Kaisen Twitter account shared the good news with its followers. In the post, it is confirmed that the movie "had exceeded 13 billion yen in revenue in Japan and is very popular in South Korea, Taiwan, and other countries."
For most people, this seems like a harmless statement. However, Chinese netizens were quick to point out that Jujutsu Kaisen is wrong for calling Taiwan a country. The controversial tweet has since been deleted and replaced with a new one that states how the film “has been released one after another overseas, and ranked first in Korea, Taiwan, France, etc.”
The official Weibo account for Jujutsu Kaisen has offered an explanation of the controversy and issued an apology.
"As the official Weibo of the animation in mainland China, I paid attention to the content released by the Japanese official Twitter on the Internet, and actively communicated with the Japanese side as soon as possible. The content of the official Twitter of the anime Japan has been modified. We sincerely apologize for the harm caused to the vast number of netizens, especially the fans who like to return to the battle with magic!" the statement reads.
For now, the apology has only been posted on Weibo. However, Chinese netizens are insisting that Jujutsu Kaisen should issue an apology on Twitter where the original statement was made. The Twitter account has not yet posted an update.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is currently screening in theaters worldwide. The second season of the anime has not yet been given an official release date but is expected to premiere in Winter 2023.
