Jujutsu Kaisen has several memorable characters who each play an important role in the story. This is especially true with Satoru Gojo, who brought two main characters into the franchise. So how exactly did Gege Akutami come up with the idea of creating the sorcerer? The mangaka has just revealed how he created Gojo to be an important part of the manga.
Gege Akutami on Satoru Gojo's Creation in Jujutsu Kaisen
Gege Akutami was recently interviewed by a French publication where he spoke about how he came about creating the characters (via Twitter). Interestingly, Akutami pointed out that he had a different approach to Gojo.
"When I create characters, they have to fit into the canons of Shonen manga in order to catch the readers' attention. There are characters for which I create the visual aspect first, like Panda or Inumaki. Others are born first as a concept, for example, Gojo, who represents the pinnacle of strength. I think it's important to choose one of these angles of attack and then complete the character," he said.
It's not a huge surprise that Gojo started out as a concept before becoming an interesting individual. Since his introduction in both the manga and anime, we have learned a lot about the Tokyo Jujutsu High School teacher and there is little doubt we'll get to learn even more in the future.
Anime-only fans are set to discover something new about Satoru Gojo in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2. As confirmed in the teaser, the series will follow the manga's Gojo's Past story arc which will feature the teacher as a student. With that in mind, we're looking forward to knowing more about Gojo and seeing where his story will lead in the second season.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 has not yet been given an official release date. However, the second season of the anime is already expected to premiere sometime in July 2023.
