However, it looks like working as an English dub voice actor isn't as glamourous as most people expected. A new report reveals how pay rates in dubbing are very low that even a successful film like Jujutsu Kaisen 0 had severely underpaid the English dub voice actors and fans are completely shocked!
The new report from Anime News Network shines the spotlight on the possibility of union dubs now that Crunchyroll and Funimation are merging. The report brings up the possibility of putting up union dubs with the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) so that voice actors can get consistent pay, working conditions, and more.
But why is it so important for English dub voice actors? The report reveals that "Jujutsu Kaisen's English voice actors were likely paid just $150 to $600 each, based on the going rate in the industry. That's not a per-hour rate. That's the total amount."
It's a drastically low pay considering that Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has been a huge success internationally where the English dub version of the film was screened. Needless to say, fans are unhappy about the voice actors working so hard but not getting the salary they deserve.
