There is little doubt that Satoru Gojo is one of the most enigmatic characters in fiction right now. The Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School teacher is known for his easygoing personality despite being believed to be the most powerful sorcerer in the world of sorcery. But does Gojo have what it takes to be truly fearsome? Jujutsu Kaisen 0 actor Kaiji Tang says the character could easily become a villain if things didn't work out the way they did in the film!
Kaiji Tang plays Satoru Gojo in the English dub version of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 so he knows a lot about the character. While speaking to Comicbook.com along with Suguru Geto actor Lex Lang, Tang pointed out that Gojo's best friend helped him become a better person and things would have been different if he never met Geto.
"I know for Gojo, his friendship with Suguru was such an important part of his life. I can't imagine he would've been the same character almost. Because the circumstances of his birth are so outrageous, he's been more or less removed from the world at large because of his standing because of the power he was born with. And Suguru has been his only friend," Tang said.
He continued by stating that Geto was "the only humanizing force in [Gojo's] life."
"He learned to protect weak people from Suguru, from his original ideals. I mean, if you remember, Gojo was anti those ideals when he first floated them to him, he was like, 'Suguru, what are you talking about? That sounds dumb. Who would do that? Why would you protect weak people? That just sounds like a waste of time.' And then of course we'd go to the movie and by then they almost juxtaposition each other," Tang said. He then concluded that it was a good thing that Gojo had a friend like Geto.
"So without Suguru in his life, I think Gojo would've been a way worse person. He would've probably been the antagonist of the movie at that point," Tang stated.
It's an interesting way to put it and a terrifying idea considering that Gojo is way too powerful and would be a truly scary bad guy. With that in mind, it's a good thing Geto came along and changed his perspective.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is currently screening in theaters worldwide.
