Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Brings in $2.88M in North American Preview Screenings

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is finally set for its theatrical debut in US and Canada today but it looks like the anime film already got an early and exciting start. The prequel movie based on Gege Akutami's manga got a preview screening in selected North American cinemas and not surprisingly, it has already earned over US$2.88 million on Thursday night!

According to Deadline, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 was previewed on Thursday, March 17, 2022. The early screening in 2,003 theaters in the US and Canada didn't go unnoticed as the movie immediately US$2.88 million at the North American box office. It's an amazing start for a film that has already dominated the Japanese box office during the holiday season last year.

The anime movie previously sold a total of 9.07 million tickets, earning over 12.7 billion yen (approximately US$107 million) since it premiered in Japan on December 24, 2021. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is currently the highest-earning film at the Japanese box office in 2021 and the 21st highest-grossing film of all time in the country.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is based on Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School, the prequel manga to the main series. The manga follows Yuta Okkotsu who is being haunted by his dead ex-girlfriend Rika Orimoto, who has turned into a Curse. Okkotsu's dilemma is noticed by a sorcerer named Satoru Gojo, who invites him to enrol at the Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School and learn how to control the Curse. However, another sorcerer becomes interested in Rika and wants to take her away from Okkotsu!

In the meantime, Gege Akutami's main series continues as the latest chapter of the manga has finally been published. In Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 178, Okkotsu once again summons the Rika curse as he takes on two opponents at the same time!

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 will premiere in the US, Canada, and the UK on March 18, 2022.
