There is little doubt that Jujutsu Kaisen 0 was destined to be a box office smash. After all, the prequel to the main anime was one of the most highly-anticipated films of the previous year. Not surprisingly, fans came in thousands when the movie was finally released in late 2021, leading to a box office performance that almost toppled the record being held by Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie - Mugen Train!

It has already been confirmed that Jujutsu Kaisen 0 earned a stunning 2.6 billion yen (around $22.7 million USD) on its first three days of release in Japan. That's an amazing feat that was made possible by its premiere during the Christmas weekend.

Not surprisingly, the Jujutsu Kaisen film's opening weekend box office earnings have been confirmed to be the second-highest in Japan. The movie now takes second place for the biggest opening weekend box office performance after Mugen Train. In addition to that, the anime film is expected to continue dominating the box office and could soon defeat some of Demon Slayer's records. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is based on the prequel manga originally titled Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School. It is a prequel to the main series, which was turned into an anime in 2020.

The film follows Yuta Okkotsu, a high school student who is being haunted by his childhood friend Rika. The girl has turned into a Curse and won’t leave him alone. That is until Yuta encounters Satoru Gojo, a teacher at Jujutsu High who shows young exorcists how to fight against Curses. Gojo convinces Yuta to enroll at the school but will Yuta be strong enough to go up against Rika?

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is still screening in Japanese theaters. The movie has not yet been given an official international release date.
