Joss Whedon to Write Dr. Horrible Comic Book For Dark Horse

Before he made The Avengers, Joss Whedon was loved for his work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, and an internet-only musical called Doctor Horrible. Starring Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion, it revolved around a supervillain who was in love with a girl but was always thwarted by a jerk superhero. Thanks to some good songs, funny jokes, and a ridiculously dark ending, the musical continues to have fans to this day.

So for the 10th anniversary of the project, Whedon has decided to write a comic book based on the musical. He hasn't written a comic book in a while so the fact that he's willing to do so for this one-shot is interesting, to say the least. Bleeding Cool speculates that it's because Dark Horse lost the Firefly license to BOOM! Studios and Fox recently pulled the Buffy license from the publisher.

Called Doctor Horrible: Best Friends Forever, it seems like the timeline has been messed with as the villainous doctor is suddenly best friends with Captain Hammer, his arch-nemesis. This is the work of a villainess named Hourglass and fans will also be able to see a number of faces who were in the musical and maybe other comic book projects.

Doctor Horrible: Best Friends Forever comes out on November 14.
