Jonghyun, the late member of the K-pop boy group SHINee, still receives love and support from his friends and fans years after his death.

K-pop fans, especially SHINee’s fandom SHAWOL, heard the most heartbreaking news when SM Entertainment confirmed that the then-27-year-old singer was found dead inside a studio apartment in Gangnam.

Police said that Jonghyun’s sister called them to the apartment at around 6:00 p.m. at that day after receiving worrying messages from the idol. The responders were still able to rush him to a university hospital but he was later declared dead.

Years after his death, his family continuously helps people in need through the Shiny Foundation.

Jonghyun’s labelmates and other K-pop idols came together before the foundation’s auction on May 2 to 9.

On April 18, Shiny Foundation confirmed that they would be auctioning off items donated by idols under SM and FNC Entertainments. So far, SHINee’s Onew, Key, and Minho, TVXQ’s Yunho and Changmin, FT ISLAND’s Lee Hongki, Jaejin, and Minhwan, Red Velvet’s Yeri, CNBLUE’s Yonghwa, Minhyuk, and Jungshin, EXO’s Suho, and Girls’ Generation’s Hyoyeon all donated items to the event.

The late K-pop idol’s family also gave items that Jonghyun once owned – from clothing pieces to his personal items.

Each item reportedly has a maximum auction price. Thus, fans expect the bidding to end earlier than expected.

According to the foundation’s website, half of the proceeds would be used to help the victims of the forest fires in South Korea, while the remaining half of it would go to the construction of the psychological counseling center that the foundation aims to establish.

Shiny Foundation Previously Launched Shiny Arts Festival

Before the auction, the Shiny Foundation famously held its Shiny Arts Festival.

In 2021, the festival, titled U & I, I’m always waiting for your stories – which is a lyric of Jonghyun’s song U & I, was attended by A-list musicians and celebrities. Lyricist Kim Eana hosted the event while the idol’s co-members performed.

Taeyeon, Wendy, Yesung, Yoseob, Yoo Seung Woo, and more K-pop idols also offered performances during the event.
