The future of Mandalore might be set in stone, but the next steps for its famous duo are just beginning. While creator Jon Favreau has a clear roadmap for Grogu's next moves in the Star Wars galaxy, the conspicuous lack of long-term plans for Din Djarin has fans asking a dark question: Is the legendary bounty hunter's time running out?
Jon Favreau Already Knows The Child's Next Move in the Star Wars Franchise

The Mandalorian series may have had three seasons, but fans are still kept in the dark about how Grogu ended up in the wrong hands. Apart from being trained in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and Jedi Master Kelleran Beq helping him escape during Order 66, there's still plenty more to explore in Grogu's backstory.
Recently speaking with GamesRadar+, The Mandalorian and Grogu filmmaker Jon Favreau confirmed he already has his stories lined up for what The Child's future looks like in the franchise: "Grogu is a character that is, his species lives for centuries. He's on a path to be both a Jedi and a Mandalorian. He's making certain choices and decisions, and he has a great teacher now. And so, as he develops and grows, there's opportunities for stories that would emanate from that."
Favreau noted that since Grogu is not on the "typical Jedi path", he could potentially study with Luke Skywalker, with heavy implications that he would cross paths with Yoda. Considering the unconventional training The Child has faced, Favreau believes that his Force use has "definitely leveled up a bit" and holds similarities with how Luke Skywalker honed his.
While fans are reassured there are plenty more Star Wars projects left for Grogu, where does this leave Din Djarin, aka his Father?
Could the Lack of Future Plans for Din Djarin Lead to His Speculated Demise?
If there's one thing that is heavily marketed in The Mandalorian and Grogu movie, it's that it's bound to be one of the most iconic and yet unforgettable premieres for the franchise, far, far away. Aside from serving as the franchise's highly anticipated comeback, fans have long fallen in love with the father-son relationship that the Mando and the Child have bonded over the years, which has also unfortunately posed a potential threat to their future.
A couple of the film's teasers have displayed ominous signs that The Mandalorian and Grogu might leave Din Djarin out of the picture by the end of it. One of those being that the teaser opened with "The Mandalorian will die tomorrow," and from there on, many references implied the possibility of Din's death.
Now, Star Wars may be known to bring its most beloved characters back to life, but could the Mando meet the same fate? Granted, his death would certainly impact fans who would likely gain mixed feelings about ending the series this way, and it could also bring Grogu in a different light as he traverses the next steps of his journey without him.
For now, it remains unconfirmed whether Din Djarin will live to see another day, post-film.
In the meantime, fans will have to wait and see what will unfold in The Mandalorian and Grogu, once it premieres on May 22, 2026. Stay tuned!
