Jon Favreau: The Mandalorian Will Hone in on the 'Mad Max Aspect of Star Wars'

Solo: A Star Wars Story may have underperformed in the box office, but we're still getting a return to the underground world of Star Wars with Jon Favreau's The Mandalorian. As it turns out, Favreau really wanted to embrace the grimier bits of Star Wars and it will definitely show in the series.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Favreau explains, "I'm trying to evoke the aesthetics of not just the original trilogy but the first film. Not just the first film but the first act of the first film. What was it like on Tatooine? What was going on in that cantina? That has fascinated me since I was a child, and I love the idea of the darker, freakier side of Star Wars, the Mad Max aspect of Star Wars."

Admittedly, Star Wars has been all about Jedi ever since the prequels came out, but I'm personally excited to go to the underworld, where the conflict between the Empire and the Rebels are the least of anyone's problems. Give me a blaster and a starship over a lightsaber any day.

Good news is, we don't have to wait too long before we get our first teaser for The Mandalorian. A trailer is expected to land this Friday, and with this show being one of the major draws for Disney+, I'm expecting Lucasfilm to bring their A-game. The Rise of Skywalker could be the last thing on my mind for all I care.

Jon Favreau's The Mandalorian is set to come out on Disney+ when it launches on Nov. 12.
