There's still a lot that we don't know about The Mandalorian other than its general premise and cast and crew. However, it looks like Jon Favreau has confirmed that an iconic droid from The Empire Strikes Back will be showing up in the highly anticipated Star Wars series.
Favreau decided to give his fans and followers an awesome Christmas treat. To do so, the Lion King director shared a surprising photo on his official Instagram account. Check out the post below.
That's right, that's the IG-88. We're not sure if this is the same Phlutdroid that was ordered by Darth Vader to track down the Millennium Falcon in The Empire Strikes Back. Nevertheless, the bounty hunter's appearance in The Mandalorian is certainly a welcome one.
IG-88 already has a connection to Boba Fett, who was also one of the bounty hunters ordered to find the Millennium Falcon. Could this Phlutdroid actually be connected to the titular character in Favreau's series? We can't wait to find out next year.
It was recently confirmed that The Mandalorian will be led by former Game of Thrones actor Pedro Pascal, who will take on the titular role. He will be joined by Gina Carano, Nick Nolte, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito, Werner Herzog, Emily Swallows, and Omid Abtahi.
So far, we know that Star Wars: The Clone Wars executive producer Dave Filoni will direct the show's pilot episode. The other directors include Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, Deborah Chow, and Rick Famuyiwa. Ludwig Göransson has been confirmed to provide the musical score.
The Mandalorian is set to premiere on Disney+ in 2019.
