Joker: Viewers Reportedly Walking Out Of Theaters Due To Excessive Violence

It was obvious right from the start that Joker would be a controversial film. After all, it has nothing to do with the DC supervillain's comic book origins and Batman isn't even part of the story (sort of). But is it too violent for audiences? Some people are reportedly walking out of theaters as the movie has too much violence and seems to promote gun use.

A report from The Daily Mail reveals that people are already tweeting about their disgust for the Joaquin Phoenix film. Some claim that it is "too terrifying" while others are begging that the Todd Phillips movie should be banned.

But maybe it wasn't really the film that people were so worried about? Several tweets also expressed concern about shady audience members as well as the sheer number of police officers around the movie theaters.

It was previously reported that the FBI is already monitoring any Joker-related threats being issued ahead of the film's premiere this week.

"While our standard practice is to not comment on specific intelligence products, the FBI is in touch with our law enforcement and private sector partners about the online posts," the FBI said in a statement. "As always, we encourage the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activity to law enforcement."

Although people might be walking out of theaters, that doesn't mean that Joker is losing in the box office. The film earned $13.3 million domestically on Thursday night alone and is well on its way to taking in about $100 million on its opening weekend.

Joker is currently screening in theaters worldwide.
