Joker Star Joaquin Phoenix Arrested at Climate Change Protest

It looks like Joaquin Phoenix doesn't just play a rebel in his films. The Joker star has just been arrested at a climate change protest in Washington DC.

According to TMZ, Phoenix was attending Jane Fonda's Fire Drill Friday protest at Capitol Hill in Washington DC when he was seen being taken away by the police.

This might be Phoenix's first arrest for joining the protest but it's hardly a surprise for Fonda, who has been arrested multiple times for arranging the protests.

Before he was taken away by the police, Phoenix gave a stirring speech about climate change. Watch the video below.

"I don't have anything prepared, people have spoken so intelligently and eloquently, but something that I think isn't oftentimes talked about in the environmental movement or in the conversation about climate change is that the meat and dairy industry is the third leading cause of climate change and I think sometimes we wonder, 'What can we do in this fight against climate change?' And there's something that you can do today, right now, and tomorrow, by making a choice about what you consume," Phoenix said.

"And I think it's something that is doable, and I struggle so much with what I can do, at times. There are things that I can't avoid. I flew a plane out here ... but one thing that I can do is change my eating habits and so I just want to urge all of you to join me in that," he concluded.

It's still unclear how long Phoenix will be detained. Stay tuned for more updates on the arrest.

Phoenix recently won the Golden Globe for Best Actor for his performance in Joker.
