It seems like DC's Joker movie has made a big impression at this year's Oscars.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences just recently released its list of Oscar nominees for the Academy Awards' major categories, and it looks like Joker is leading the way in the running with 11 nominations. That's the most for any film this year, though it was followed closely by Martin Scorsese's The Irishman, Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood and Sam Mendes' war movie 1917 which each gathered 10 nominations each.
Joker was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Original Music Score, Best Sound Mixing, Best Costume Design, Best Sound Editing, Best Film Editing, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
The gritty character study of Gotham's Crown Prince of Crime has become the first ever DC movie to nab a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars. If the film were to win the category for Best Picture, then Joker would be the first ever comic book movie to make a major mark at the Academy Awards.
Joker has been doing pretty well for itself during this year's awards circuit. The film's lead star, Academy Award-winning actor Joaquin Phoenix, took home the award for Best Actor in a Drama at the Golden Globes last week. The actor also nabbed the Best Actor Award at the Hollywood Critics Association Awards. It also took in eleven nominations from the British Academy of Film and Television, including nominations before Best Film, Best Director, Best Leading Actor, and Best Score.
This recognition shouldn't come as a surprise to fans. Sure, the film mgith have become controversial for its theme and its content, but Phoenix's performance in the movie was nothing short of astounding.
Joker is available on Digital HD, DVD, Blu-Ray, and Ultra HD Blu-Ray.
