It's official. Joker is finally the highest-grossing R-Rated of all time in the history of Hollywood.
According to ComicBook.com, Todd Phillip's gritty standalone movie focused on Ghotma's Clown Prince Of Crime just recently beat Deadpool at the box office becoming Hollywood's highest-grossing movie of all time. The film just reached $7881.1 million at the global box office, a little over the $783.1 million that what Deadpool managed to rake in during its entire theatrical release.
Joker is also expected to rake in a few million more this weekend, bring the film's haul to about $800 million by Monday. A few more weekends more and the film could potentially reach a little below a billion. If it reaches a billion, then the film will share places with Aquaman as the highest-earning movies in Warner Brother's DC Extended Universe.
Joaquin Phoenix's movie sure is enjoying success. It's pretty great seeing Joker succeeding at the box office, especially after the film went through so much controversy before its release. There was a whole lot of concern that the film would encourage violence among viewers with the same disposition as Phoenix's Arthur Fleck. Not only did the military confirm that there was at least one credible threat of a mass shooting at a Joker screening, but the FBI went on social media to look into Joker posts and the New York Police Department decided to patrol screenings of the film during Joker's opening weekend.
But now the film is succeeding, and it seems like it's going to continue to succeed as it completes its theatrical run.
Joker is currently screening in cinemas.
