Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's ongoing trial was among the things Drew Barrymore and Anthony Anderson talked about on Friday's episode of her eponymous show. However, many were upset and disappointed with the way the two joked about Depp's severed finger and publicizing his personal experience of domestic abuse.

Drew Barrymore Apologizes For Making Light Of Johnny Depp And Amber Heard's Trial

Drew Barrymore realized that her interaction with Anthony Anderson last week for her daytime talk show when they talked about Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's ongoing trial didn't sit well with many of her viewers.

During their chat, they laughed at the Drew Barrymore Show host and asked the Law & Order star if there was any "current zeitgeist" that he would want to be approached on the police procedural series. Anderson gamely responded by mentioning high-profile cases involving celebrities.

He mentioned Blac Chyna's defamation lawsuit against the Kardashian-Jenner family. Then, he brought up Depp's $50 million defamation case against his ex-wife, Heard.

The 50 First Dates star received an intense backlash over the weekend. Barrymore issued a public apology via Instagram.

"It has come to my attention that I have offended people with making light of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, and for that I just want to deeply apologize and appreciate everyone who spoke out because this can be a teachable moment for me and how I move forward and how I conduct myself," she said.

"I can be a more thoughtful and better person moving forward because all I want to do is be a good person. I very much appreciate the depth of this and I will grow and change from it. And I thank everyone for helping me grow along the way and teaching me. Thank you," Barrymore added.

Why Netizens Were Furious With Drew Barrymore's Reaction To Johnny Depp And Amber Heard's Trial?

The netizens were furious at Barrymore and Anderson for underestimating what Johnny Depp went through. They even mentioned his severed finger during their discussion with Anderson saying, they just "read the transcripts of what they've done to each other."

"I know that these are two people's real lives and I know what it's like to have your life put out in public. I understand all the feelings, but they are actually offering up this information that nobody had to know. This is crazy!" Barrymore added.

Barrymore's statement seemingly questioning Depp for televising the trial raised some eyebrows. Many sympathized with the Pirates of the Caribbean star, including some domestic violence survivors, because they knew it wasn't easy for him to keep his silence for six years, and now that he speaks up, some question him for sharing it.

"After going through her own serious ordeal growing up, you [would] think Drew would be a little more sympathetic in regards to a situation where a man was pushed to the point of self-harm and could have been killed after contracting MRSA due to an injury his spouse caused. This is disgusting. Glad you found a bit of time to laugh it up at domestic violence on your show," one person commented on YouTube, where a clip of the interview was shared.

"Making fun of such an awful situation is disgusting!! He didn't 'want to offer this information.' He HAD to do that in order to have his reputation back! His whole career was greatly affected by all this for YEARS, so it is fair he wanted to find justice in some way," another added.

"#DrewBarrymoreShow Pls cancel this show This woman is such a bigot i honestly think she doesn't deserve any humanity from people Just because Amber Heard of a woman it's ok for her to abuse people and ruin people's life @DrewBarrymore This is a big FU from all the men," one tweeted.

"Talk about cruel and evil. As dv survivor you purposely mock victims you and your male guest. Shame on you. #CancelDrewBarrymore," another added.

The video of Barrymore and Anderson's conversation about Depp and Heard's trial has since been deleted from the show's Twitter and YouTube accounts.
