Comic book fans finally got a "taste" (get it?) of James Gunn's newest DC Extended Universe offering Peacemaker and the reception to it has been more than lukewarm. The last couple of days saw the HBO Max series reap a ton of praise from fans and critics for its brilliance and to say that they're hooked on the show is an understatement.

In case you're wondering what's next for Christopher Smith when all is said and done, Gunn is now offering fans some pretty promising updates regarding the character's future in the franchise. Appearing on The Hollywood Reporter's TV's Top 5 podcast, the director of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise revealed that Peacemaker is set to make his return to the big screen in an undisclosed DCEU project.

It's still unclear whether or not it's the mystery DCEU film James is currently working on but given his great working relationship with lead star John Cena, it would make sense for his next DC project to also feature him.

Here's what Gunn had to say: "It is part of the DCU, I mean they can use these characters... I mean one of these characters, which people have kind of figured out, one of these characters is used in a future big DC movie that's from here. So we are connected to all of this... who knows what role these characters are going to play in the future? I mean no one knew who the Guardians of the Galaxy were, and then all of a sudden they're massive players in [Avengers:Infinity War and [Avengers:Endgame. So who knows what's going to happen with Peacemaker in ten years, five years, or whatever."

WB definitely struck gold with Peacemaker and I don't blame them for wanting to do more with the character. And with James seemingly having a lot of creative pull with the now-beloved anti-hero, fans can rest assured that the studio won't be turning to their usual meddling ways.

Peacemaker's first three episodes are now streaming on HBO Max.
