It can't be denied that British-Nigerian actor John Boyega was one of the most controversial celebrities of the past year and he made headlines after calling out Disney and Lucasfilm for the alleged mistreatment of Star Wars characters who happen to be people of color. Now, the actor is once again generating buzz all over social media following an incident that took place on the set of his upcoming Netflix project.

According to The Hollywood Reporter's scoop, the 29-year-old actor walked away from the production of Rebel Ridge without the people behind the project knowing about it. As reported by THR: "According to one person with knowledge of the situation, the filmmakers only discovered [Boyega had exited the film] when they looked for him at his hotel and found that he had checked out… According to sources, there seemed to be no incident that prompted Boyega to leave in the midst of the shooting. Several insiders, however, say the star had myriad issues ranging from the script to his accommodations."

Boyega's agent quickly came to the actor's defense, claiming that while the actor did, in fact, leave the set of the $25-million Netflix project, it was actually due to family reasons contrary to THR's report where Boyega is being portrayed as unprofessional. Femi Oguns said: "I can categorically say that these rumors are completely untrue. People will form their opinions often rooted from boredom."

He added: "As stated John unfortunately left due to family reasons which in truth is none of anyone's business except his own. John and Netflix have a wonderful relation which will continue to grow for years to come whether that be through his acting or through [Boyega's production company] UpperRoom."

Following the incident, fans noticed that Boyega's Twitter account suddenly became unverified with some of his tweets over the last couple of months also being taken down. Boyega, who has previously taken to social media to address matters concerning his personal and professional life has yet to comment about the issue.

Naturally, fans are under the impression that Boyega's current issue has something to do with his political views. Hopefully, the actor clears the air soon but I wouldn't be surprised if he's once again finding himself in the middle of a messy situation involving the people behind his latest project. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Meanwhile, the entire Skywalker saga is available for streaming on Disney+.
