John Boyega Shows His Support for the Black Panther Movie

Despite existing for decades, the Star Wars franchise made a biggest step toward representation by casting Johyn Boyega as a lead in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Marvel is doing the same thing with the release of Black Panther, and Boyega has taken to Twitter to show his support for the film.

Check it out:

In no way should there be composure around black panther. Celebrate this freely! This movie means history to me and I'm so excited to see this! Big love to all Involved!

Though Boyega isn't involved with making the movie directly, it's worth noting that Star Wars and Marvel Studios do fall under the same Disney banner. In fact, actors Lupita Nyong'o and Forest Whitaker had previously worked on Star Wars movies prior to Black Panther, with Nyong'o playing Maz Kanata in The Force Awakens and Whitaker playing Saw Gerrera in Rogue One. With all the popular black talent landing roles in this film, I was actually wondering why Boyega didn't get a small role. Even Get Out's Daniel Kaluuya is in this movie.

Like Wonder Woman was a big step for superhero movies last year, Black Panther will be the first movie to center around a black superhero. Though some may argue that the likes of Falcon and War Machine have been with the MCU for a while, both those heroes are more of second fiddles to the likes of Captain America and Iron Man.

Early reviews for Black Panther are looking great, and everyone can't wait to visit Wakanda when it hits theaters Feb. 16.
