Joel Edgerton recently revealed that he auditioned to play Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy.

At this point, it is hard to imagine any other actor play the role of Star-Lord in the MCU aside from Chris Pratt, who has become iconic for his portrayal of the Guardians of the Galaxy leader.

Before Pratt was eventually cast, there were several actors who were in contention to play the role and one of them is the Star Wars vet.

In a recent interview, Edgerton opened up about his failed audition for Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy.

He admitted that he didn't understand the tone of the character, unlike what Pratt did, which led him to not get the role.

"Star-Lord’s a good one, actually, because I, unlike Chris [Pratt], didn’t quite sort of understand the tone of it the way he did and the way that those guys did," the Star Wars actor said.

"And I wasn’t really sure how I could be a part of that tone. And I truly think that the world is a much better place that I’m not Star-Lord, even if I had the opportunity or I did a good enough audition because it is the way it’s meant to be."

Edgerton continued, "And there was never a real conversation that it would have definitely been me. It was just, I had the opportunity to try and audition. I just didn’t quite understand it."

A lot of fans would agree that everything went well in the end as it's hard to imagine Star-Lord without Pratt's portrayal and Edgerton's take on the role would have been vastly different from what we've been seeing.

Perhaps we could still see Edgerton become involved in the MCU at some point in the future if a perfect role presents for him. Considering that he is already part of the Star Wars franchise, there is certainly a possibility.
